About Splaj

Who We Are

Splaj (Syrian Platform for Law and Justice) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Germany, dedicated to promoting accountability, transitional justice, and human rights in Syria. Born out of the urgent need to support survivors of atrocities and contribute to legal and societal reconstruction, Splaj stands as a bridge between Syrian civil society and international mechanisms of justice.

Founded by a collective of Syrian legal experts, human rights defenders, journalists, and academics, Splaj is committed to building a future where justice is not only an abstract principle, but a lived reality for all Syrians. Our work is grounded in rigorous documentation, legal research, victim-centered advocacy, and collaborative engagement with international institutions.

Our Vision

A just and democratic Syria where the rights of all individuals are respected, past crimes are acknowledged, and future atrocities are prevented through strong legal frameworks, civic participation, and inclusive governance.

Our Mission

  • To document violations of international humanitarian and human rights law committed by all parties to the conflict in Syria.
  • To support victims and their families in their pursuit of truth, justice, and reparations.
  • To build legal capacity among Syrians and foster a culture of accountability.
  • To contribute to international legal efforts, including universal jurisdiction cases, transitional justice mechanisms, and historical truth-seeking.
