Missing Persons and Mass Grave Investigations

One of the darkest legacies of the Syrian conflict is the fate of tens of thousands of missing persons, including those forcibly disappeared by the Syrian regime, armed groups, and ISIS. Splaj’s dedicated Missing Persons Unit:

  • Documents cases of the disappeared through interviews and document analysis
  • Partners with forensic experts to investigate mass graves
  • Uses geospatial and forensic technology to map suspected detention centers and burial sites
  • Collaborates with families of the missing to amplify their demands and ensure representation

Splaj’s efforts also contribute to the development of a future national missing persons program, drawing from best practices and international norms.
